Use tabs in Chrome

You can open as many tabs as you want in Chrome. You can also view all your tabs and switch between them. When you open a new tab, a personalized New Tab page based on your browsing history appears.

Open a new tab

On your Android phone, open the Chrome app .
At the top right, tap More New tab.

Tip: If you frequently open new tabs, the right of the search bar may display the shortcut New tab . If it doesn't and you want to add New tab :

Tap More Settings Toolbar shortcut.
Select New tab.

Open a new tab on Android tablet

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
At the top, next to your open tabs, tap New tab .

Close a tab

On your Android phone, open the Chrome app .
To the right, tap Switch tabs . You'll see your open Chrome tabs.
At the top right of the tab you want to close, tap Close . You can also swipe to close the tab.

Close all tabs

On your Android phone, open the Chrome app .
To the right of the address bar, tap Switch tabs . You'll see your open Chrome tabs.
Tap More Close all tabs.

Close tabs on Android tablet

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
On any tab you want to close, tap Close .

Close all tabs

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
On any tab, touch and hold Close .
Tap Close all tabs.

Switch to a new tab

On your Android phone, open the Chrome app .
To the right of the address bar, tap Switch tabs . You'll see your open Chrome tabs.
Swipe up or down.
Tap the tab you want to switch to.

Switch tabs on Android tablet

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
Tap the tab you want to switch to.

Reorder tabs

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
Touch and hold the tab you want to move.
Drag the tab to a different position.

Group your tabs

On your Android device, open the Chrome app.
Tap Switch tabs .
- Create a tab group: Touch & hold a tab, then drag over another tab you want to group it with.
- Add a tab to an existing group: Touch & hold the tab and drag it into the group.
- View tabs in a group:
  1. Tap Switch tabs .
  2. Select a group.
- To remove a tab from a group:
  1. Tap the tab group.
  2. Touch and hold the tab you want to remove.
  3. Drag the tab to the "Remove from group" area at the bottom of your screen.

Refresh tabs

On your Android phone, open the Chrome app .
To the right of the address bar, tap More .
Tap Reload .

Refresh tabs on Android tablet

On your Android tablet, open the Chrome app .
At the top left, tap Reload .

Open new windows on your Android tablet in Chrome

You can open up to 5 windows at a time and move tabs from one window to another on your Android tablet.

Open a new window

On your Android tablet, open Chrome .
Tap More New window.

Move a tab to another window

On your Android tablet, open Chrome .
In the tab you want to move, tap More .
Tap Move to other window.
Select the window to move the tab to.
Tap Move tab.

Switch windows

On your Android tablet, open Chrome .
Tap More Manage windows.
Tap the window you'd like to open.

Close a window

On your Android tablet, open Chrome .
Tap More Manage windows.
Next to the window you want to close, tap More Close window.
To confirm, tap Close window.
