BD-1 Explained: Did ‘Book of Boba Fett’ Cross Over with ‘Fallen Order’?

What would Star Wars citizens do without droids? Probably all the same things we’d do without our phones, smart watches, Alexas, Roombas, etc.: they’d sit around wishing they had droids to do all the grunt work. As a mechanic working out of the worst planet in the galaxy, you better believe Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) has a whole fleet of droids to help her make a living. Her droids include a number of familiar models, like Treadwell and the one and only R5-D4. But do they include BD-1 from the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order?

Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett paid another visit to Motto’s garage and introduced viewers to a few new droids on her payroll (well, if she actually paid the droids). One of those droids may look familiar to Star Wars fans who played a certain video game. Let’s talk about BD-1.

What is a BD unit droid?

BD units are basically the Star Wars equivalent of, like, interns or assistants. They’re there to act as sidekicks to researchers and explorers, especially those navigating hostile terrains across the galaxy.

Who is BD-1?

BD-1 is one such explorer droid who traveled as a companion to archaeologist Jedi Master Eno Cordova. The Jedi Master entrusted his findings, including a vision of Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi Order, to BD-1 to ensure that they would not be lost with his impending death. Eventually BD-1 found the perfect person to continue Cordova’s mission: Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis. If you want to experience this mission yourself, you can play the 2019 video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Is BD-1 in The Book of Boba Fett?

No. BD-1 is not in The Book of Boba Fett.

Then what’s with the BD droid in The Book of Boba Fett Episode 5?

That’s just another BD droid. Kinda like how Peli Motto has an astromech droid that is not R2-D2, she also has a BD droid that is not BD-1. So that’s Peli Motto’s BD droid, who Peli just calls BD. You can actually tell the difference between BD-1 and Peli’s BD droid: BD-1 has a white and red paint job whereas Peli’s BD is just a plain off-white/metallic color.

This just means that BD-1 isn’t the only BD unit active in the galaxy. And on the chance that you may see further adventures of Peli Motto and her scrappy little BD unit, tune into the final two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+.
